Streamline complex processes
Successful launch phase results in applications that increase data insight and reduce administrative burden
Digital leader in 2025
B2B service provider Mourik aims to be a digital leader in all markets in which it operates by 2025. So they started a digital transformation process in which a good portion of the business processes are being digitized with Mendix low-code. The initial phase of this transformation process is now complete and the first applications have been successfully delivered. In the coming period, Mourik is taking further steps in its digital transformation and will further enhance the organization’s ability to innovate and compete.

Better decision-making for smarter solutions - Digital shell over IT landscape
Digitization of complex business processes increase efficiency
The best and brightest solutions
Mourik, with HQ in Groot Ammers, is a 90-year-old Dutch family business with 2000 employees. The company consists of Mourik infra, Mourik industrie, Mourik Belgium and Mourik Global. Mourik infra is engaged in infrastructure projects such as dike reinforcement and maintenance of roads and bridges. Mourik industry specializes in industrial cleaning, maintenance and renovation. Mourik Belgium handles similar activities for the Belgian market and Mourik Global serves Europe and the rest of the world.
By better understanding and managing data, Mourik aims to be a leader in the field of IT in two years. IT can thus contribute to Mourik’s overarching goal of providing the best and brightest solutions to customers by 2025. Jaap van der Welle, CIO at Mourik: “You don’t just become a digital leader overnight, so we first carefully considered how we could approach this. Until recently, many of our complex business processes took place on paper or in Excel, which often resulted in differences in working methods and work was not always efficient. To change this, we finally decided that we needed a digital shell over our entire IT landscape. This seemed to us the best way to standardize Mourik-wide work and gain more insight into our data. We also felt it was important to improve the measurability of our projects. After research, low-code turned out to be the perfect solution to achieve these goals.”
Finding the right partner
Mourik was looking for an approachable, robust low-code platform. Mendix was chosen because of its extensive functionality and good reputation in the market. The next step was to find the right partner. Stef Koomans, low-code program manager at Mourik: “We talked to several suppliers. Only at Bizzomate did we feel that they really looked beyond building applications. Bizzomate clearly thought more broadly and could also support us with questions such as: how to assemble the right team, how best to set up the application infrastructure and how to get the applications to the business? So we chose them because we were convinced that they were the best partner in achieving our digital ambitions.”
The first projects for digitization
The digitization process started with the development of some small applications at Mourik. Take Traffic & more, for example, an application for Mourik Infra and its customers that gives work planners central insight into the road closures to be placed around an infrastructure project. As a result, work planners can now more easily issue work orders to executive staff and spend less time on administration. Currently, some 40 office workers are already working with the app. In time, executive staff will also use it to check their work assignments and timesheets.
In addition, Bizzomate launched an “Order to Cash” application for Mourik Industrie. This application digitizes the entire process from order to invoicing in all branches and is linked to the ERP system. This will provide a better understanding of the orders issued, hours, materials needed, work in progress and outstanding amounts.
This is how we work
Positive results
Mourik is satisfied with the first phase of the digitization project. Jaap: “I am really impressed with the impact we have already been able to make in just a few months. We are already benefiting enormously from the fact that we can now capture data unambiguously in our organization. We have also embraced the ‘agile’ way of working faster than expected. The first version of an application was always shared quickly because of this way of working. In this way, the business became directly involved. This also created something much more important: enthusiasm about what you can achieve with digitization. We are perhaps most pleased with that.”
Henry Kraaijenbos, partner at Bizzomate: “We are very pleased that Mourik has chosen Bizzomate. We are convinced that with our knowledge of digitizing business processes with Mendix low-code we will fully realize the objectives. This will reduce overhead costs in the future and further reduce margin pressure.”
Developing your own applications in the future
Stef: “We are very happy that we have chosen Mendix low-code to realize our digital ambitions. We can already see that our innovation power has improved significantly and we have many more applications planned for the coming period. In the coming period the ‘Order to Cash’ application will be further completed and several other applications will be built such as a time registration app and an app for reporting security incidents.”
In time, the IT department wants to develop applications itself. Thus, new solutions will have an even shorter time-to-market and IT will become even more employable as a strategic tool to provide the best solutions to Mourik customers.
