Efficiency improvement
Logistics service provider Seacon increases efficiency and improves compliance with help from Bizzomate
Onboarding customers more efficiently
Logistics service provider Seacon supports customers around the world in delivering cargo by air, sea or land. To make their business processes even more efficient, they chose Mendix low-code built by Bizzomate. The first application that automatically stores and pushes master data to other applications is now live. This application has made the onboarding process of new customers much more efficient and improved compliance.
- Accelerate onboarding of new customers
In order to improve customer service - Save master data automatically
So that the probability of errors is reduced - High compliance requirements
Resulting in high administrative pressure
Growing demand for greater insight into cargo status
Logistics service provider Seacon operates worldwide. However, the focus of their activities is in the Netherlands and Germany. About 300 people work at the headquarters in Venlo. They coordinate freight transportation and ensure that the carriers being worked with get freight to its destination on time and on budget. In doing so, Seacon relieves customers not only of transportation but also of matters such as customs clearance and any temporary storage of goods.
There is growing demand for their tower control solution that takes over a customer’s entire logistics. Partly as a result, Seacon received more and more strategic customer requests in areas such as sustainability and efficiency. In addition, customers wanted more insight into the status of their freight. However, the logistics provider soon discovered that to meet these demands, the entire chain had to be modified.
Elias Becker, Director Supply Chain Solutions and responsible for IT at Seacon: “In a highly competitive market such as this, as a logistics service provider you want to be sure that your business processes are as well organized as possible. At Seacon, we were eager to take further steps in this regard, which is why we decided to start a digitization process, focusing on the entire logistics process from order request to post-performance. Our idea here was that the customer could follow the progress of the order to Seacon at any time. This turned out to be more complex than initially thought because our organization is organized in silos. Various systems had to be linked together internally because we wanted to build a customer portal that showed data from various systems.”
So Seacon issued a tender seeking a party that could provide technical support in building applications and help solve customer questions around efficiency and increasing visibility into cargo status.
Honest advice
Elias: “We ultimately chose Bizzomate because they met our requirements such as seniority, low-code expertise and the highest application security standards. Another important reason was the click we had with the consultants. Their open and honest advice, about what was and was not possible in the field of low-code, really appealed to us. Moreover, their focus was clearly not only on the technology but mainly on the added value that the application had to have for the business. This really set them apart from other parties.”
High rate of development
It took Seacon some getting used to the fast pace of development with low-code at first. Meanwhile, the balance has been struck and the first application has gone live. It is a tool to automatically store master data and push this data to various internally used applications. Crucial data such as bank details and delivery addresses are therefore automatically entered correctly into all systems.
Data quality has already increased significantly with the advent of the application, and staff spend much less time entering data when onboarding new customers. It used to take a day to enter all the core data; it now takes no more than two hours. Built-in automated checks at onboarding also make customers more compliant, which is very nice for the finance department.
We introduce Mendix
New customer portal
Soon, a second application will “go live,” a customer portal that allows customers to always have insight into the status of freight and make new bookings for transport themselves. The first version of this customer portal is currently being tested with a number of customers so that the application can eventually be rolled out further.
By providing the customer with one centralized environment where they can see the status of their freight at any time of the day, Seacon needs to spend less time on status updates to customers, leaving more time for deepening the customer relationship. An additional advantage is that a menu can be built for each customer within the application. This allows Seacon to create generic menus and turn them on or off per customer. This creates a personalized environment that perfectly meets customer demand. This further enhances the customer experience.
Elias: “Now that we have discovered what is possible with these first two low-code applications, we see many more opportunities for the optimization of various other business processes at our company. Therefore, with the help of Bizzomate, we certainly expect to further expand the number of low-code projects within Seacon in the coming period.”
