Easytocare, a Belgian company specializing in handling the administration of medical professionals wanted to further optimize its services to customers. Outdated systems made this process difficult and complex. To solve these challenges Bizzomate built various new applications based on Mendix low-code. They also trained the internal IT team. Thanks to the new applications, Easytocare-staff is now able to work more efficiently. Because the IT team is capable of building low-code applications themselves, they’ve also become less dependent on external suppliers now.
Support medical professionals
Easytocare is a non-profit organization that supports medical professionals with their administrative processing, both on paper and digitally. The company is active in Belgium and services about 2000 medical professionals.
Medical professionals send in an overview of their treatments and Easytocare processes these and checks whether legislation regarding these treatments has been applied. Easytocare also handles the invoicing to insurers and patients ensuring that the medical professionals and doctors are paid on time.
Gert Beliën, Director ICT & Services: “When I started working for Easytocare, I analyzed the application landscape. Soon I discovered that we had several outdated applications in place for processing administration. They were built in various programming languages and they were not linked together properly. As a result, we lost the overview of our application landscape and we were unable to work as efficiently as we wanted. In addition, we were dependent on third parties for software adjustments. So we decided to renew our application landscape and migrate to a modern, robust and easy-to-use Mendix low-code platform which would also enable us to make adjustments ourselves.”
Easytocare started looking for an expert partner in building Mendix low-code platforms. The partner they were looking for also had to train the organization in embracing agile ways of working and developing in Mendix low-code. Beliën: “We contacted several potential partners but in the end, we selected Bizzomate because of their long-standing experience with agile ways of working and low-code and because they were also able to train our staff.”
Five apps as the ultimate goal
Bizzomate then started developing on the Mendix low-code platform with five new applications as the ultimate goal. In accordance with the agile ways of working Easytocare employees were able to provide constant feedback when the applications were built. As a result, employees were very involved with the new platform
The first three applications have gone live now. The main app is MedCore, which uses core data from Belgian legislation and regulations for healthcare. MedCore uses the data to automatically put together a set of validation rules ensuring that even if regulations change, checks are still performed correctly. As a result, Easytocare employees immediately have insight into whether a patient has the right age to approve a treatment or not for example. There is also the possibility to add more checks, in addition to legally required ones.
The second application is called MedTar. It operates as the central interface for employees to process the overviews sent by medical professionals. The application contains a logical workflow making it easy to use. A third application, MedCon, was built by Easytocare’s IT team and contains the most important contacts of the organization. Two more applications will be added in the future. MedFin will handle the financial settlement of invoices and MedDoc will contain functionality for automatically generating documents.
Less processing time required
The applications have been live for several months now and have quickly become business-critical for Easytocare. About twenty employees are using the applications on a daily basis. Easytocare is very satisfied with the low-code platform. The new applications completely replace the outdated applications and are more user-friendly so new staff need much less time to familiarize themselves with the application.
Employees also save time because they no longer have to check the performance codes manually. They now receive an alert in case they enter an incorrect code, saving Easytocare a lot of time on correcting errors and leaving more time for developing or integrating with other new services.
Easytocare’s IT team is enabled to maintain the new application themselves. Bizzomate has taught them to build and maintain high-quality low-code applications in a structured way. Moreover, there is enough low-code knowledge in the team now, so they are no longer dependent on one person or one supplier to build and maintain applications.
Gert Beliën, Director ICT & Services: “We are very happy with the new platform. Our application landscape is future-proof now and we can help our customers faster and more efficiently. Our apps are built generically so that we can easily design and build new services on them in the future. The collaboration with Bizzomate has also been a success. They’ve provided us with excellent support both strategically and operationally. The agile working method introduced by Bizzomate has also served as an enabler for cultural change. By embracing agile ways of working, our staff got more involved in the development of applications, but also in the development of our organization as a whole.”
Erik Poels, consultant at Bizzomate: “We are very satisfied with the collaboration with Easytocare. Because Easytocare’s IT team fully focused on this project, we could achieve maximum results. With the new applications, Easytocare can process the administration of medical professionals much faster. This saves an awful lot of time. Moreover, the IT department has really made a turnaround. They have transformed from a standard IT department to a department actively involved in application development and delivering value for users and customers. They can be proud of that.”
